Take Dirk Nowitzki for example. Dirks numbers have slipped a bit over the last two seasons since his peak from 2004 to 2010. However, the guy led his team to a championship, which makes him an official superstar. Plus he plays in a major media market, and his name is awesome. (How cool would it be if his jersey just said Dirk on the back instead of Nowitzki? Are you reading this, Cuban?) Thats enough to help him crack the top 15 in jersey sales.

Or, what about Paul Pierce? Paul Pierce may be past his prime, but the guy has played his entire 15 season career with the Celtics. That is the kind of thing that makes you a superstar in Boston, so its no surprise his jersey makes the list over Kevin Garnett.

The Top 10 Model Train Shops In Delaware, Maryland, And New Jersey

For the past year I’ve been compiling a list of model train stores for my model railroading website. These shops all look like a lot of fun to visit, but what are the most popular? Here is a list for the states of Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey.

The most popular model railroading shops (based on online chatter) in Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey are:

10. Ridgefield Hobby in Ridgefield, New Jersey

9. Maplewood Hobby in Maplewood, New Jersey

8. M. B. Klein Model Train Stuff in Cockeysville, Maryland

7. Tony’s Train Town in Cedar Grove, New Jersey

6. MTH Electric Trains in Columbia, Maryland

5. Hobbymasters in Red Bank, New Jersey

4. The Model Railroad Shop in Piscataway, New Jersey

3. The Train Station in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey

2. Toy Train Emporium in Cherry Hill, New Jersey

…and the most popular shop for model trains in Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey is…

1. The Hobby Shop in Aberdeen, New Jersey

Hobby shops not quite making my top 10 were Just Trains in Newark, Delaware; Millsboro Hobbies in Millsboro, Delaware; Seaside Hobbies in Ocean View, Delaware; Engine House Hobbies in Gaithersburg, Maryland; G Scale Train Station in Waldorf, Maryland; Hobby Works in Rockville, Laurel, and Bel Air, Maryland; The Train Room in Hagerstown, Maryland; Atlantic Rails in Folsom, New Jersey; Genes Train Stop in Kearny, New Jersey; Island Trains in Middletown, New Jersey; Pastime Hobbies and Miniatures in Bayonne, New Jersey; Z and Z Hobbies in Mercerville, New Jersey; Zeppelin Hobbies and Raceway in Wayne, New Jersey.

So, there are lots of great model railroading shops from all over Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey but clearly New Jersey dominated the list with eigth in the top ten. Maryland had two inthe ten, and Just Trains in Delaware just missed out. Note that this list was for the train stores more than their online web stores. If this list were for online stores www.modeltrainstuff.com, the website of M. B. Klein Model Train Stuff, would probably have won.

When in Delaware, Maryland, or New Jersey be sure to visit some of the excellent railroading museums including Harrington Museum and Railroad Museum in Harrington, Delaware; Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Maryland; Brunswick Railroad Museum in Brunswick, Maryland; Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum in Hagerstown, Maryland; Huntington Railroad Museum in Bowie, Maryland; New Jersey Museum of Transportation in Wall, New Jersey; Whippany Railway Museum in Whippany, New Jersey; and South Jersey Railroad Museum in Tuckahoe, New Jersey.

I compiled this list by searching for the hobby shops listed on a number of search engines and ranking them by the number of web pages, discussion forums, photos, videos, etc that are available online. I further screened this list to include only pages that mentioned model railroading.

The History Of Motorcycle Jackets

Nearly as long as there have been motorcycles, there have been leather motorcycle jackets. The first motorcycle jackets evolved from the aviator jackets worn by the World War I and World War II fighter pilots. The jackets had narrow collars and were fastened down the front by buttons. At that time, all of the jackets were made of horsehide leather because there was an abundance of this material due to the number of farmers who tended horses. Eventually, the buttons on the motorcycle jacket were replaced by a zipper. Following World War II, aviators commonly took to motorcycles as a way to recapture the exhilaration they experienced as pilots. They continued to wear their same aviator jackets while riding motorcycles.

Marlon Brando epitomized the leather motorcycle jacket when he appeared in the 1953 movie The Wild One about two rival motorcycle gangs. Since then, leather jackets became synonymous with motorcycles. The leather jacket also became a status symbol for the rough crowds who defied societal conventions as depicted in many of the early movies featuring motorcycle gangs. Soon kids motorcycle jackets started showing up in schools. In fact, because of what the jacket represented, most public schools prohibited students from wearing motorcycle apparel on school campuses.

As time went on, the same look and feel of the leather jackets remained. You didnt put on the jacket to be warm; you put it on to be in style with the biking crowd. If you were into biking, you wore a motorcycle jacket. All motorcyclists who rode with clubs sported the jacket to create a sense of camaraderie and belonging. This same attitude toward motorcycle apparel still exists.

Leather jackets eventually shed their outlaw image which created an opportunity for clothing manufacturers to begin creating designs that catered to a more diverse biking population. Kids motorcycle jackets became common. Women, who once only rode on the back, began piloting their own machines. Leather was still the apparel of choice, but women started donning leather outfits that aligned more with their style and personalities.

The historical black leather jacket is still the most popular form of motorcycle apparel and is unlikely to go out of style. Still, leather jacket designs and fashions are becoming more eclectic and individualistic. Therefore, clothing and apparel designers are creating more varieties in order to keep up with current fashion trends. But the historical sentiment derived from the original aviator-jacket-turned-motorcycle jacket will linger in the hearts of bikers for generations.

Winter Jacket To Keep You Protected Against The Cold

Essential part of anyone’s wardrobe, the winter jacket is gaining in popularity because of the increasing tendency towards informality. Gone are the days of formal two-piece or three-piece suits with ties or cravats and a hat and the heavy winter coat. The younger generation prefers the more casual look and so prefers the winter jacket made of polar fleece, Gore tex or some such material that keeps out the cold, the wind and the rain.

Jackets have evolved over centuries from tunics which were used as the outermost garments in Greek and Roman times. A winter jacket is an informal winter coat that is made of inexpensive but warm material that can be of any color of your choosing unlike a winter coat which is formal and is made of wool or plaid and has a restricted range of sober and subtle colors.

A winter jacket can be a fleece jacket or a winter sports ski jacket. It could also be a mens down jacket or a softshell jacket or even a Gore Tex jacket. The difference in the selection of material and styling turn a winter jacket into say, a ski jacket or a softshell jacket. Jackets are usually worn outdoors and if a cheaper version of a winter jacket is desired, you can opt for a wholesale outdoor jacket online and you can get a real bargain.

In places where it rains a lot a Gore Tex jacket is preferred or a winter jacket with the Gore Tex fabric fused in the upper layer is very popular.

Covering the torso till the waist a winter jacket is a casual unisex garment. It usually has a collar and cuffs that are elastic and can hold the wrist. The winter jacket is worn over all other clothes and is primarily meant to protect the user from the chilly weather. It has a zippered closure that ensures that there Is no opening for the elements to sneak in and make the user uncomfortable. A winter jacket can be worn over jeans or a skirt or any informal pair of trousers. It can be worn during the day or in the evening for any informal occasion. If your work place does not insist on formal attire, a winter jacket can be worn to work rather than the stuffy winter coat. It can be worn to school or college or on a date. A winter jacket is a versatile garment and one that everyone must have.

A Simple Guide To Buying A Leather Jacket

Leather jackets are becoming an increasingly trendy article of clothing to have in your wardrobe. If you want to keep up with the latest fashion trend you can do no better than to invest in a good quality leather or suede jacket.

The recent trend for motorcycle clothing, especially biker jackets and biker boots, have made a leather jacket a must have piece of clothing. The array of choices available are often daunting but if you do your research correctly and decide at the onset what type of jacket you want and how much you wish to spend, you are sure to grab a bargain.

A good place to start is by asking friends or family for recommendations of outlets they perhaps may have bought a jacket from with which they are happy with. The next stop is the internet. Here you can view at your fingertips the numerous designs that are available to you. You can see what styles are in vogue at present and you can even emulate your favourite music or film star and buy a jacket just like theirs.

Once you have decided on the style of your jacket you need to choose what type of leather you want and what colour. Cow and buffalo leather is quite tough leather and is a popular choice for biker jackets. Sheep and lamb is lightweight leather which is often used for blazers and bomber jackets. Pigskin on the other hand is a thin leather and not very durable.

The finish of the leather jacket is very important as different tanning processes produce a different finish and can alter the appearance of the leather. The Nappa process creates soft durable leather however, for a soft and velvety finish a suede or Nubuck leather is what you are after, but be warned it is not waterproof.

Once you have chosen your leather type you must choose your jackets style. From biker jackets to leather blazers, suede jackets to trench coats, there are numerous designs to pick from. Do you want a belt or buttons, pockets or vents? Beware of imitations or fakes; they are usually easy to spot as they are made of poor quality leather. Once you have decided and bought your leather jacket it will serve you well. Pair it with jeans and a t-shrit for a trendy casual look or with a dress or trousers for a smarter style. If stored correctly and is well taken care of your treasured leather jacket will last a lifetime.

Wage And Hour Law In New Jersey

Both overtime and minimum wage law in New Jersey are derived from the Department of Labors Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Non-exempt New Jersey workers have certain rights to compensation and treatment, and understanding these rights is the first step in not having them abused or taken away.

New Jersey Labor Provisions

In New Jersey, certain compensation practices are regulated by law to protect employees from unfair treatment. In the case of your final wages after being terminated or quitting your job, the next scheduled paycheck should include them. Additionally, paycheck deductions should never be undertaken as disciplinary action for items or equipment lost or damaged by you.
Your employer may lower your rate of pay, but must inform you in advance of such a change. This change in pay rate cannot affect your already-earned wages; those are to be compensated at whatever your rate of pay was at the time.

Overtime Pay in New Jersey

New Jersey overtime is considered any hours worked in excess of 40 during a workweek. A workweek is seven full, consecutive days. It must always begin and end on the same day, which is established by your employer for the duration of your employment. It cannot be the average of more than one week of work.
Most exemptions from New Jersey overtime pay extend to salaried individuals, but that does not mean that if you are on salary you are not entitled to overtime. Additionally, overtime exemptions are based on job functions, not titles. Salaried individuals who work in executive, administrative, or professional capacities (all further defined on the NJ Department of Labor website) are generally exempt from overtime pay. These positions require independent judgment and decision-making, which is often the deciding factor. Outside sales and service persons are also usually exempt.

Minimum Pay in New Jersey

The New Jersey minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, which is the same as the Federal minimum wage. Following is some additional information about New Jersey minimum wage:

Tipped employees who make more than $30 a month in tips are guaranteed the minimum wage. The tips may count as your wages, but if the sum of your tipped wages does not equal $7.25 for each hour you worked, then your employer must pay you the difference.

There is no minimum wage for minors in the state of New Jersey. However, the apparel, beauty culture, retail, hotel and motel, cleaning and dyeing, and first processing of farm products industries must pay them $7.25 an hour.
